Lincoln Adventure Day

The 6th Grade students from Lincoln Elementary School participated in the 12th Annual Adventure Day. This year's trip was to Belva Deer Lake near Sigourney.  The students participated in nature hiking, GPS navigation, off road biking, nature printmaking, Team Building, canoing, kayaking and fishing.  48 community volunteers and parents, along with Lincoln Staff members served as guides and instructors for the various activities.  "I would like to THANK EVERYONE involved!  This event could not be done without their invaluable help", Tim Balvanz, Physical Educator, Lincoln Elementary School.  This was a fantastic day for everyone involved!

6-8th grade ELP students participate in Soaring High Quiz Bowl

On Friday, May 14, the 6-8th grade ELP students competed in the Soaring High Quiz Bowl Competition in West Liberty against 8 other schools.  The Washington teams placed 6th in the competition.  It was a great day for everyone!

On May 24, 2010, Mrs. Melissa Myers, Vice President Mortgage and Retail Lending of West Chester Savings Bank was invited to present to Ms. Buhrow’s and Mrs. Farmer’s eighth grade math class. Information she discussed included responsible budgeting techniques, importance of a credit score, pros and cons to debit, credit, checking accounts, fraudulent transactions, and identity theft.

Students Attend Young Writers' Conference PDF Print E-mail

Six students from Lincoln Elementary attended the Young Writers’ Conference at St. Ambrose University on Tuesday, May 18.  Students were recommended by their sixth grade language arts teacher based on creative writing projects submitted this school year.   The conference included entertainment by improvisational actors, an opportunity to share their writing with other students from different schools, and a session on ways to improve writing.

New Backup System Installed PDF Print E-mail

Washington Community Schools recently installed a new disk based backup system for the District's electronic information. This project was made possible with half of the funding coming from a $6000 Washington County Riverboat Foundation grant.

Upgrading our existing backup system from magnetic tapes to a hard disk based solution allows a faster, more reliable off-site backup of the District's electronic information. This includes all staff and student data, email, and server systems. This disk-based system utilizes our existing fiber optic network and is located at one of our schools, offsite from our main data center. This will allow more frequent off-site backups, and enhance our ability to recover data if a situation would occur.
