• Bus Incident We wanted to make you aware that a bus driver confiscated a plastic look-alike knife from an elementary student at pickup near St. James. The student was waving an object in the bus line. The driver heard it was a knife in which the student proclaimed was real. The driver detained the student as he was attempting to enter the bus. Police were called because the student wouldn’t give the knife to the bus driver. It was confirmed to be a plastic look alike hunting knife. We encourage families to discuss the importance of leaving toy weapons at home. Because of how real toy weapons can appear, school personnel must take immediate action to ensure the safety of students. Safety is the top priority at all of our school buildings and we are thankful that this situation has been handled without incident.

The 4-H After School STEM Club is now taking registrations for the March and April Sessions. This science club is open to students in 3rd-5th grade. Washington County Extension & 4-H and Lincoln Elementary are partnering together with a sponsorship from Bazooka Farmstar to offer additional and fun ways for Washington youth to interact with science more in a hands-on setting while making new friends and connecting with caring adults in the community. This camp is open to any 3rd-5th grade student who wants to experiment more with science, technology, engineering, and math.

Each session will use an Engineering is Elementary and State 4-H curriculum facilitated by Liz Goodwin, Julie Timmins, and Amy Green. The March session will be March 7, 14, 28 titled “Catch the Wind”. Students will engineer sails and blades to catch the wind and turn it to power.

The April session scheduled for April 11, 18, 25 is titled “Robots on Parade” and students will focus on computer science. They will learn coding basics and program Bee Bots to complete unique parade routes and then advance to the Dot and Dash robots who are able to talk, sing, flash lights, dance and more.
