Donation PDF Print E-mail

The Washington Community School District received a $100,000 donation from Carl and Helen Dallmeyer. The money was pledged to the district last fall and is specified to be used to help pay for an electrical system upgrade for the current high school building. A check was delivered to the district on December 22nd.

The district has committed $807,000 to renovating the 1918 structure in preparation for conversion to a middle school. These funds have come through grant dollars, donation and physical and equipment levy (PPEL) funds. Improvements include the replacement of the boilers, repair/replacement of the classroom controls, replacement of the hot water system, installation of false ceilings, replacement/repair of two roofs, replacement of up to 160 door locks and doors, renovation of a restroom to become a handicapped accessible Special Education restroom,, electrical upgrades for the facility and lighting replacement.

“We are very appreciative of this donation,” said Superintendent of Schools, Mike Jorgensen. “There are still about $500,000 of more improvements we would like to see but have tapped out our facility funds.” “We really appreciate the support of the Dallmeyers to improve the environment of this building for our students. “ Further improvements include media enabled classrooms throughout the building, replacement of tile flooring and painting of the classrooms.
