2nd Graders Become Immigrants PDF Print E-mail

In January, the 2nd graders at Stewart Elementary began to study immigration-what countries people moved from, the many reasons they came to Americas, and the hardships they endured on their journeys. On February 11th, the 2nd graders became immigrants, arriving by 'ship' in the gym at stewart. All passengers then proceeded to 'Ellis Island' and went through many different rooms-baggage room, medical room, information room, interview room, and passport room. Some faced deportation for various reasons-carrying scissors, not having a job, etc. The immigration simulation helps the students understand what people went through when they came to America.

  • Do you have a bed?
  • Are you a bus driver?
  • Do you know how to drive?
  • What songs do you listen to?
  • What did you eat for lunch?
  • Do you know how to roller skate?
