From the looks of our entry way you can tell that Stewart Elementary is getting "Wild About Reading" during the month of March. An assembly was held to kick off the activities complete with a "gorilla" that was reading to the students. Students will be recording reading minutes each week; those who read 360 minutes during the month of March will get their photo on the Safari Reader Leader wall. Total minutes read will be added as paw prints to cover the wall of the main hallway. Each Friday will be a theme dress up day that everyone can participate in. Lots of other fun activities will happen during the month as Stewart Elementary students get "Wild About Reading". The Stewart Family Fun Night is Thursday, March 6 from 5:30-7:00 and will follow our Wild About Reading Theme. Mark your calendar and plan to attend the FAMILY FUN NIGHT!

Stewart: First Graders Move & Groove with Pick a Better Snack PDF Print E-mail

First graders at Stewart Elementary have been taking healthy bites the past three weeks through the Pick a Better Snack program. Valentine week focused on exercise and sweet red peppers. The program, Pick a Better Snack, is designed to motivate children to increase what they eat of fruits & vegetables; as well as, increase physical activity- move & groove! Students learned that 60 minutes of exercise is required every day for healthy bodies. Each week Amy Green, 4-H/youth coordinator, visits the first grade classrooms to talk about making healthy food choices. Students always get to sample a fruit or vegetable of the day. If you have any questions about the Pick a Better Snack program; or would like to volunteer/ financially support the program- please call the Washington County Extension Office at 319-653-4811.
