WCSD: Giving Thanks Print

The Washington Education Association has again sponsored sacks of food for needy families in our schools at Thanksgiving. This is the ninth year we have done this in connection with American Education Week. School Employees from our district made this possible through monetary donations and time. It is a way we can give back to our school community. Families are suggested by school counselors, principals, assistant principals and nurses. This year we donated 147 meals to give to families in our district. Thanks to the outstanding helpers, we had every meal sacked up within 10 minutes. This year a sack of food cost $18 (the price 9 years ago was $16) and consisted of: a turkey roll, 5 pounds of potatoes, a can of gravy, a box of stuffing mix, a package of dinner rolls, 3 cans of vegetables, a sack of carrots, a bag of salad mix, a can of cranberries, a can of sweet potatoes and a no bake dessert mix. Thank you to Fareway Grocery for all your help with this project!
