Hello,
I wanted to get this out to you today with possible weather tomorrow morning.
1. Weather calls-
a. Notification- If you have your mobile phone number or email address in PowerSchool, you will have a text or email sent directly to you (this will be the quickest way to be notified). It will also be posted on the district website and Facebook page. We also notify KCII, WHO-TV, KILJ, KCRG, KZIA, KGAN, KWWL, KWQC, KHAK, and KCCK.
b. Snow/Ice- I will typically wait until the morning to make the call for snow because sometimes the snow misses, and I want to ensure it is tracking the right way. I also don’t want to make two calls. Most people have a plan for a two-hour late start and a different plan for no school. If I start with a two-hour late start and change to having no school around 8:00 in the morning, many people will already leave for work, which could create a problem. I get up around 4:00 am. I start driving roads and calling into the National Weather Service broadcasts for schools and counties. I will try to make the decision before 5:15 am so that people can plan their day.
c. Cold weather- I look at cold weather all of the time. I will try to make the delay or school cancellation the night before to help parents plan. I know this is different from what I do for snow/ice, but I have found that most of the time, the temperature fluctuation doesn’t happen
nearly as much as the chance of snow sliding North or South of us. I look to see if we are in a Winter Weather Advisory. If the wind chill is between -21 and -29 and doesn’t change much over the next couple of hours, we will go to school at the regular time because it isn’t getting better if it is -29 windchill at 6:00-7:00 am and is supposed to be -16 at 9:00 am. There is enough variance to make it better for our students; that is why we would take a two-hour delay. If we are in a wind chill warning (-30 windchill) and it stays that way all day, we will cancel school if it moves into the windchill advisory before 9:00 am. We would go 2 hours late.
d. 2-hour Late Starts on Friday- If we have a two-hour late start on a Friday, we will move Professional Development to the morning and run school through the end of the regular school day for students.
2. Hard Surface Road- If we switch to hard surface roads for any reason, here is a link to our hard surface road map. We are still working on updating this map, but here is the starting point. When the map pulls up, it will be empty with the Animal/bus number and driver listed on the left side. Please click the bus your child takes, and the stopping points will appear on the map. Click on the point closest to your house, and the morning pick-up and afternoon drop-off times will appear. If you have questions, don't hesitate to contact Woody Harden at

Con el posible clima mañana por la mañana, quería comunicarles esto hoy.
3. Cancelaciones por causa del mal clima-
d. Notificación- Si usted tiene el número telefónico del celular o su dirección de correo electrónico
registrados en PowerSchool, recibirá un texto o un correo electrónico directamente (esta es la
manera más rápida de recibir la notificación). Más aparte, lo anunciamos en KCII, WHO-TV, KILJ,
KCRG, KZIA, KGAN, KWWL, KWQC, KHAK y KCCK.
e. Nieve/Hielo- Típicamente espero hasta la mañana del mal clima para decidir la cancelación
porque quiero asegurar que sea necesario. La mayoría de la gente tiene un plan para iniciar el día
escolar dos horas tarde, y otro plan por si se cancelan las clases. Prefiero hacer solo un aviso del
cambio de horario en caso de que sea necesario- en vez de anunciar primero un empiezo tarde, y
después ya cancelar. Trataré de tomar la decisión definitiva alrededor de las 5:15AM para darles
chance de planear el día.
f. El clima frío- En caso del frío extremo, trataré de tomar la decisión de empezar las clases tarde o
cancelar desde la noche anterior, para ayudarles a los padres a planear. Si la temperatura con la
influencia del viento será -21 a -29 grados bajo cero y no existe mucha posibilidad de cambiar,
probablemente no cancelaré las clases debido a que no hay mucho cambio pronosticado. Si la
temperatura con la influencia del viento será -29 grados a las 6:00-7:00 AM y después está
pronosticado a cambiar a -16 grados a las 9:00 AM, habrá razón en empezar tarde al día escolar
porque eso será mejor para los estudiantes; puede ser razón suficiente para anunciar que las
clases empezarán 2 horas tarde. Si los avisos del clima pronostican una temperatura de -30
grados bajo cero con la influencia del viento durante todo el día, cancelaré las clases. Si el clima
pronosticado cambiará antes de las 9:00AM entonces anunciaremos que las clases empiezan 2
horas tarde.
g. ¿Y qué pasa si tenemos que iniciar el día escolar 2 horas tarde en un día viernes?- Si sea necesario
empezar las clases 2 horas tarde un día viernes, tendríamos juntas para los empleados por la
mañana; y las clases para estudiantes empezarían 2 horas tarde, pero tendríamos clase hasta la
hora de salida normal (hasta las 3:20pm).
1. Los autobuses y la circulación únicamente sobre caminos pavimentados- Si tenemos que cambiar la
circulación de autobuses debido al mal clima, usted puede usar este enlace del mapa de circulación de
autobuses en este caso. Al ver el mapa usted verá los números y nombres de los autobuses y los nombres
de los chóferes de mano izquierda. Usted puede hacer clic en el autobús de su hijo(a) para ver las paradas
que, al hacer clic, aparecerán en el mapa. En cada parada indicada, usted puede hacer clic para ver los
