Washington Performing Art Series proudly presents Charlie Albright, American pianist/composer, Wednesday, November 29th at 7:00 p.m. at the Washington Area Performing Arts and Events Center located at 1111 S. Avenue B. in the Washington High School.
International award-winning pianist, composer, and improviser Charlie Albright brings music to everyone, uniquely connecting with audiences like no other through his music, speaking, and ability to make concerts fun.
This event will be free for all students K-12 to provide local budding artists an opportunity to experience truly outstanding performances and to further encourage their involvement in and dedication to the arts. Albright is 34 years old!
The Washington Post hailed Charlie Albright as “among the most gifted musicians of his generation” with a “dazzling natural keyboard affinity.” Albright has also been praised by the New York Times for his “jaw-dropping technique and virtuosity meshed with a distinctive musicality.”
He is “A master of improvisation” according to the Boston Musical Intelligencer.
Charlie Albright provides a delightful evening of entertainment, mixing classical music with a bit of pops and keyboard improvisation, all tied together with his relaxed and friendly stage presence. Program highlights may include Beethoven’s “Moonlight Sonata,” Gershwin’s “Embraceable You” among many others.
A popular feature of his performance is his improvisational creation of a musical composition, on stage live, prompted by 3-4 musical notes suggested by audience members. It must be seen to be believed!
“Albright was born January 29, 1988, in the U.S. Army hospital near Tacoma, Washington. His mother, Hyesoo, was a computer database specialist who was born in Seoul, and his father, Jeff Albright, was a U.S. Navy serviceman. Albright says he began to play the piano at age three-and-a-half, starting with "Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star" played by ear.[6] From the age of four he appeared on state and national television. Albright not only graduated with the prestigious Artist Diploma (A.D.) from The Juilliard School of Music and a Master of Music Degree in Piano Performance from the New England Conservatory, but he also completed a bachelor’s degree in economics and Pre-Med at Harvard University and is an official Steinway Artist.
LIVE IN CONCERT
Charlie Albright performs on tour worldwide at venues ranging in size from Carnegie Hall, the Kennedy Center, and Lincoln Center to auditoriums in small towns across America. He appears as soloist with major orchestras around the world to soloist in recitals ranging from serious classical to "fun," pop/rock/jazz pieces.
COLLABORATIONS
Crossing genres from classical to rock, pop, jazz, and world music, Charlie Albright is a frequent collaborator with such individuals and groups as cellist Yo-Yo Ma, violinist Joshua Bell, actor Courtney Vance, the Silk Road Project, conductor Keith Lockhart, and vocalist/conductor Bobby McFerrin.
