The last day of “Wellness Wednesday: Mindful Teen” students made a calming jar as a reminder and visual of what mindfulness looks and feels like. Similar to a snow globe, this jar is made of water, glue and glitter which can be mixed up and cloudy at times making it hard to focus but giving it time to settle in a calm space while breathing, it will settle and become clear again. Washington Middle School students Pheonix Inman and Gael Palacios worked together to make their calming jars. Students were challenged to shake the jars and then let them sit. After two full minutes of slow, quiet breathing waiting for the calming jar to settle was an example of how to step away from stressful situations for mindfulness which can help handle strong emotions.

MS Building Options 2nd Survey
05/27/2021
Hello, This is the second survey that the district has put out for our future MS building project. In the last survey 48% of responses wanted the new building on a new site and 39% wanted a new addition to the current HS and renovation of the old part of the HS was the second highest option. The breakdown of survey responses for those who could vote for this bond was 47% for the new building and new site and 36% for the new addition to HS and renovation of the old part of the current HS. With this information, the board has moved forward with these two options on our next survey. This survey will point the board in the direction the community wants us to move for the MS and will run this bond in September. Please make sure to look over the informational sheets, so you can make an educated decision. Thank you for your help in gathering data to move our district forward.

MS Building Options for General Obligation Bond
03/18/2021
Hello, It is time to look at doing something with our Current Middle School Building. This will be a major project and will require us to pass a general obligation bond (property tax bond). I know that there have been several attempts at passing a bond for this building in the past. We are currently looking at 4 different options of how to move forward for our students, staff, parents, and community. The purpose of this survey is to gauge which two options will best serve all of the people mentioned above. I have attached links to a video and PDF explaining the pros and cons of each option presented to the board by our construction manager and our architect. I personally don’t care what way we go with it, I just want us to decide and pass something that will make the educational environment more inviting for all previously mentioned parties. Dear Staff, Students, and Parents/Guardians: The Washington Community School Board will meet at a work session on Thursday, July 30th. The only topic at this work session will be the presentation of the Return to Learn (RtL) Plan. At this time, we plan to attend school in the face-to-face mode with mitigation practices set in place. The document will be released to the public for their viewing on Friday, July 31st. We realize that everyone has different opinions on what needs to transpire for our students. If you have questions or concerns about the plan after you have read it in its entirety, please email me at [email protected] or any one of the building administrators. The WCSD Board will meet again next week no earlier than August 5th to approve the plan and move forward. This remains a very fluid situation, and things may change at any time. We are ready with a hybrid model and a virtual model if our students need it. Both of these models are outlined in the plan. Thank you for your understanding and patience on this matter as we continue to move forward.
